The part nobody tells you

You've already paid for secure bike parking.

Kitchener runs five secure bike cages in its downtown parking garages. They're free after a $10 registration. Waterloo rents lockers, and a shared cage in the Uptown Parkade, from $10 a month.

Most people who ride here have never heard of either. The only way to find out is a city web page, a phone call and, in Kitchener's case, cash and a trip to pick up your pass.

The petition

What we're asking for.

Addressed to Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge city councils, the four township councils and Regional Council. We sort signatures by where people live, so each council sees its own residents.

  1. Publish every public bike parking location in the Region as open data, including racks, lockers and secure cages, and keep it current.
  2. Let people register and pay for secure bike parking online, and show how many spaces are free right now.
  3. Add secure, covered parking where riders keep searching and finding nothing.
